Monel Wire Mesh

Material: Monel
Feature: Superior corrosion resistance
Application: Marine and Offshore

Monel wire mesh is a woven metallic mesh manufactured using high-nickel Monel alloys such as Monel 400, Monel K-500, Monel 401, and Monel 404. It is also referred to as Monel mesh screen, Monel wire cloth, or Monel filter mesh. Due to its high nickel and copper content, Monel wire mesh provides outstanding corrosion resistance and durability in harsh environments like seawater and chemical processing.

Material Composition

  • Monel 400: Approx. 63% nickel, 28–34% copper, trace iron and manganese.
  • Monel K-500: Similar to 400 but with added aluminum and titanium for higher strength.
  • Monel 401/404: Nickel-copper alloys with balanced composition for electrical and thermal applications.

These alloys make Monel wire mesh resistant to acids, alkalis, fluorine gas, and saline environments.

Weaving Types and Mesh Range

Monel wire mesh is woven using plain weave, twill weave, and Dutch weave.

  • Plain & Twill weave: 2 mesh – 200 mesh are common for structural and filtration uses.
  • Fine Dutch weave: Up to 1400 mesh for precision filtration applications.

Common Mesh Counts and Sizes

We stock multiple mesh counts to reduce lead times and customization costs.

  • 10 mesh, 20 mesh, 30 mesh, 40 mesh, 60 mesh, 80 mesh, 100 mesh, 150 mesh, 200 mesh, 300 mesh.
  • Aperture openings range 0.05 mm – 25 mm, depending on mesh count.
  • Standard roll widths: 0.914 m × 30 m, 1.0 m × 30 m, 1.2 m × 30 m, 2.0 m × 30 m.
  • Custom cut sheets or discs available, e.g., 1000 mm × 1000 mm sheets or 20 mm round discs.

Features of Monel Wire Mesh

  • Superior corrosion resistance against seawater, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, and alkali.
  • High tensile strength and hardness suitable for demanding environments.
  • Non-magnetic and stable across a wide temperature range.
  • Excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion in flowing seawater.
  • Operates continuously up to 600 °C in air; corrosion rate < 0.026 mm/year in steam.
  • Low-temperature toughness: no brittle-ductile transition.

Applications

  • Marine and Offshore: Seawater filtration, desalination plants, and shipbuilding.
  • Chemical & Petrochemical: Heat exchangers, pressure vessels, reactors, towers, and pipelines.
  • Aerospace: High-temperature engine components like turbine blades and exhaust filters.
  • Electronics: EMI shielding, gas diffusion layers.
  • Filtration: Used in boiler feedwater heaters, gas filtration, and oil separation.
